Annual Rally in Goodyear, Arizona....March, 2009

IT'S TIME FOR SPRING BASEBALL IN ARIZONA! March 19-22, 2009 SW LTV Roadrunners will be holding our annual rally in Goodyear, Arizona. Southwest LTV Roadrunner Diane Stricker would like to remind you of the Annual Three Rivers Jazz Festival at the gateway to the Sequoia National Park. The dates are April 17-19, 2009. We usually dry camp at the Lion's Club. Usually, there is no need to make a reservation. There is food on site and tickets can be purchased prior to the festival....or at the "door". In the past, free shuttles were available to transport you to other stages in the Three Rivers area. So put it on your calendar and watch for more news as the date gets closer. From A Fellow Roadrunner....

Tropical Curry Chicken Salad

2 cups cubed chicken
1 cup chopped celery
1 cup mayonnaise
1/4 to 1 tsp curry powder
20 oz can of chunked pineapple
11 oz can mandarin oranges
2 large bananas
1/2 cup flaked coconut
salad greens (optional)
3/4 cup peanuts or cashews
1-2 cups mixed grapes

Mix mayonnaise, curry powder, celery and chicken. Cover and chill at least 30 minutes. Before serving, add the fruit and nuts. Serve with Sweet Onion Muffins.

Sweet Onion Muffins

1 1/2 cup all purpose flour
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
2 eggs
1 cup finely chopped onions
1/2 cup melted butter
1 1/2 cup choppped walnuts

Combine in a bowl- flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. In another bowl- beat the eggs, then add the onions until moistened. Fold in walnuts and butter. Fill greased muffin cups 3/4 full. Bake at 400 for 10-12 minutes (for minis) or 20-30 minutes (for regular size.) Test for doneness. Yields about 3 dozen mini muffins or a dozen regular muffins.

2008 Annual Rally in Goodyear, Arizona A Success!

Well, those of us who made it to Goodyear this year really enjoyed it! Spring Baseball Training was in full swing. George and Aileen Ormsby chose a perfect week with a wide variety of both afternoon and night games. The weather was great, as was the company. It's always fun to meet other owners. It never fails to amaze us, but we always learn something new....a fun event to attend, a modification of our van, or an update in technology. This year we learned how to set up our satellite on the road....thanks again George!

For future planning, mark down March in Goodyear. We have to wait to get the exact dates, but it's definitely a worthwhile outing....and baseball is America's favorite passtime?

Harvest Wine Festival in Paso Robles, California

October 16-18, 2008 will be the Harvest Wine Festival in beautiful Paso Robles, a bit inland along the California Central Coast, between San Louis Obispo and Hearst Castle. We know we'll have great food and wine....and there's lots to do in the general area. Ted and Marie Teach are organizing this event. We'll be staying at The Wine Country RV Resort. We have eleven sites reserved at this point....so contact the Teaches as soon as possible to reserve your spot. Activities will center around visiting the wineries, as each one will have it's own activities. With more than 100 wineries to chose from, we should be fully occupied. We've rented a 15 passenger van to carpool the die hards amongst us.

July 4, 5, and 6, 2008 Prescott, Arizona is hosting Prescott Rodeo Days, the oldest rodeo in the country! Judy and Wayne Stithem, residents of Prescott and Roadrunners themselves, highly recommend it. There are rodeos, dances, parades, arts and crafts, entertainment, and of course, fireworks! Three Rivers Rally...April 10-12, 2008

Well, it was another great year at the Jazz Festival in Three Rivers, California! Diane Stricker provided the info and a few of us attended. We dry camped at the festival site...only $40 for the weekend and you could come early and stay later. The three day festival pass was $75. The Three Rivers area is beautifully situated near the entrance to the Sequoia National Park. There's also boating nearby and a neat little town called Exeter, fun for antiqueing and checking out the many murals scattered throughout town. We had a delicious tri tip omelette at a local restuarant in town. We also enjoyed a full day's drive through the National Park. April is a wonderful time to visit...the weather was perfect, the wildflowers in full bloom and the crowds were minimal. The festival, spnsored by the Lion's Club and benefiting local charities, was a delight. Diane wants me to emphasize that this is mostlyDixie style jazz, which pulls top bands from across the country. The bands rotate through three local venues, which is very convenient. You never have to move your van as all the bands rotate in during the festival. There is a free shuttle available if you'd like to try a different venue. There is great BBQ, as well as breakfasts, drinks (both with and w/o alcohol) and snacks available...also flush toilets.

The Three Rivers Jazz Festival is usually held the second weekend in April. It's definitely a must see! Hope you'll consider joining us next year...

Our annual rally will be in Goodyear, Arizona again this year. We've chosen a great week to coordinate with Baseball Spring Training. The chapter has pre-purchased 25 tickets for the night game on March 21st.

THREE RIVERS JAZZ FESTIVAL

Here's some pictures from the Three Rivers Jazz Festival April 12-15,2007. There were three stages playing great jazz from about 10 to 10 daily. Thank you to Diane Stricker, one of our members, for letting us know about it...great music, great food and a lot of fun. Plus, its location near the Sequoia and King National Parks provided an excellent opportunity to explore those areas. This is an annual event...definitely worth a visit!

FOOD FOR THE ROAD....MADE EASY

Some members have requested that we start a member's cookbook. So if you have any favorite recipes that you'd like to share...here's a space to post your creations....Enjoy!

Ted's Favorite Chile Relleno Casserole

2- 7oz. cans Ortega Whole Chiles, washed and seeded

3/4 lb. shredded jack and cheddar cheese

4 eggs

4 T flour

1- 13 oz. can evaporated milk

1 lb. ground beef or sausage, seasoned and cooked

1- 7oz. can of green chile salsa

salt and pepper to taste

In a buttered 9 x 13 casserole dish, layer the chiles and cheese. Mix eggs in a blender, with flour, milk, salt, and pepper. Pour mixture over chiles and cheeses. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes. Sprinkle beef and salsa on top. Bake 15 minutes longer. This recipe can be made ahead and reheated.

Highlights From Our Baseball Spring Training Rally

Well, special thanks to Aileen and George Ormsby for planning it, and we all did come to the Phoenix area for our Spring Rally, March 14-18, 2007. The Ormsbys did a super job of putting together this event. The weather was like summer (90's) and baseball was also hot!

We had a choice of 12 teams to watch during the middle of the Cactus League Season of Spring Training. Our group saw the San Diego Padres play the Texas Rangers at the Billy Parker Field in Surprise, Arizona. What a beautiful recreational facility and a perfect place to watch America's favorite pastime! George's selection of seats were right next to the Padre's dugout and we were able to see the players really up close, and even talk to them personally. It was a great evening, even though the Padres fell short by one run.

We were fortunate to have Wally Neufeld, the Service and Warrantee Manager from LTV, join us with his wonderful family. Wally gave us all the latest news from the factory and information about the '07 Morden Rally, as well as doing some troubleshooting for us. We hope to be lucky enough to get Wally back again next year!

We would like to hear from you with fun places to go for more adventures for this year. Some of us are going to the Jazz Festival at Three Rivers in April. (See the blog for more info.) COME TO ARIZONA FOR BASEBALL SPRING TRAINING!

There are still vacancies for the March 14th to 18th Southwest LTV Roadrunners Spring Training Baseball Rally in Goodyear, Arizona . These reserved spots, however, won't last long! The Cotton Lane RV Resort, located about 23 miles west of Phoenix, is otherwise filled up. It is really important to call them now to make your reservations for a fun time meeting other LTVrs, watching a few baseball games and doing some sightseeing in the surrounding area. Depart - Sunday, March 18 The Plan: Join George and Aileen Ormsby, our event planners, and Ted and Marie Teach, our chapter heads, for a welcome margarita Wednesday about 5ish. Just bring an appetizer to share! Also, plan to attend our annual meeting of the Southwest LTV Roadrunners Thursday evening, March 15th, with a no host dinner following. We’ll plan an RV group trip to an evening game probably on Saturday, March 17th … if one is scheduled then. A group ticket order will be placed and RVer’s can reimburse the club later.

10 spaces have been reserved, all together, for Southwest LTV Roadrunner RVers. The number of spaces can be increased as needed, but only for a limited time. Reservations need to be made as soon as possible by contacting Kathleen Davidson or Charlotte Hockman at the resort’s toll free phone number (888) 907-7223. Tell them you are with the “Roadrunners RV Group.”

Please be aware of the following restrictions:
· Age restrictions: one person must be at least 50 years or older; The other person can not be younger than 42.
· Pet restrictions: no more than 2 dogs, each under 40 lbs.
· Unlike other RV resorts in the west Phoenix area, there is no minimum length requirement that excludes class B RVs.

The Resort is located 23 miles west of Phoenix and about 20 miles south of the baseball stadiums located in the cities of Peoria and Surprise. The cost is: $29.17 per night, including tax, for 1 to 5 nights. For the 6th and 7th nights, the weekly discounted rate of $161.21 applies. The Resort amenities include: indoor heated pool and Jacuzzi, phone and internet connections, laundry facilities and a 4 hole executive golf course. Note that there is no cable TV service. The Games:
The Cactus League Spring Training Baseball Schedule is not yet available. It is expected to be released in late December or early January. Check the website for stadium locations, game schedules and ticket information at: http://www.cactusleague.com/.

Our Southwest LTV Roadrunner Adventure has been carefully scheduled for the week of March 11th in order to see as many teams and top players as possible. Typically, games are played daily starting at 1:05 pm. Only 7 innings are played lasting about 2-3 hours. Cost varies by stadium but is generally $15 to $20 for reserved seating. Parking is extra.

2006 MORDEN RALLY by Bruce Beck

The Southwest LTV Roadrunners were represented at the annual MordenRally on September 7-10, 2006 by seven “Roadrunner” members. From left to right, they are: Bruce Beck, Kurt and Fay Cramer, Aileen and George Ormsby, and Sandra and Richard Parsons. The Rally was held at the Winkler Bible Camp in Manitoba. We posed for a group photo, displaying our new Southwest LTV Roadrunner banner. This year’s Rally had a total of 86 vans: 32 Canadian and 54 U.S.

The Rally was filled with lots of interesting and educational activities: Plumbing & Electrical seminars, Plant Tours, a Microwave Cooking Session, the Reinland Heritage Homestead Tour, and the Plum Coulee Village Tour. Doll Craft Sessions and Golf could fill your remaining time, if you had any time left. Evenings were filled with great entertainment. Cornie, the Elvis impersonator, was a great feature show this year. But meeting the many LTV employees and visiting other Rally attendees from all over North America was the most rewarding. It’s so very interesting to discover other ways LTV owners travel and utilize their vans. The LTV employees and Winkler Bible staff went overboard to make the Rally a wonderful experience for all of us.

Ted and I were wondering if there is any interest in a Southwest LTV Roadrunners "mini rally" in September? We're thinking of arrriving September 6th and staying through the weekend. Hopefully the crowds will be gone by then. At this point (May 31,2006) it looks like Tuolumne Meadows has sites available. If interested , let us know.

March 3-5, 2006 Rally

A rally, hosted by chapter heads Ted and Marie Teach, was held at the Sands Golf and RV Resort in Desert Hot Springs, California on March 3-5, 2006. The rally was attended by 22 owners and guests. An organizational meeting was held. Officers were elected as follows: Marie Teach (President), Ted Teach (Vice President), Margaret Wing (Secretary) and Diane Stricker (Treasurer.) The chapter name of SOUTHWEST LTV ROADRUNNERS was selected by a majority vote. It was also proposed, seconded and approved that yearly dues of $20 be collected. Wendy and Richard Spediff, Resort Managers of the Sands RV and Golf Resort, were entertaining speakers as they informed our group of the resort's ammenities, as well as local things to do. Don Petersen, Western Regional Sales Representative for Leisure Travel Vans Ltd., addressed the group concerning new design innovations, as well as fielding general questions. It was a pleasure to have Don and Pam Petersen with us. Another highlight of the rally was touring other owners' vans and sharing tips and trips information. We had great food, made new friends, and are starting to plan other rallies.

The Morden Factory Rally
